About this role

About us

The King's Fund Library Service is a unique and free source of information on health and social care policy and management. We work to help anyone interested in health and social care uncover the evidence and inform practice and policy-making in a wide variety of ways.

This positive action graduate trainee post is aimed at people from an ethnic minority background who are interested in pursuing a career in the information and library profession. The UK library profession currently identifies as 97% white and we’ve created this opportunity to help underrepresented individuals get a headstart in their library career. It’s an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative and dynamic team and to get first-hand experience of delivering high-quality, specialist research support services. This post is advertised under Section 158 of the Equality Act 2010.

At the Fund, we actively encourage applicants from underrepresented backgrounds, people from Black and ethnic minority backgrounds, those with disabilities and from the LGBT+ community. We want people to bring their unique blend of experiences, backgrounds, perspectives and knowledge as we recognise that diversity makes us stronger. If you are successful, you’ll be joining an organisation committed to improvement and progress with a wide-ranging and active diversity and inclusion programme which includes reverse mentoring, research on race inequalities in the NHS and participation in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index.

About the role
This broad-ranging role will support many of the key day-to-day duties of the service such as:

Answering enquiries and questions to support our public enquiry service
Assisting with literature searches and desk research for commissioned work or our own publications
Helping to maintain and manage our onsite and offsite collections
Produce one of our popular email bulletins that help our subscribers keep up to date on the latest information in health and social care
Support the events and activities that form part of the public engagement, outreach and marketing of our service
As this role is a developmental post, you’ll also have an opportunity to take on responsibility for a long-term project as well as taking advantage of our great internal development opportunities here at the Fund.

About you
We’re looking for a candidate who is enthusiastic, curious and has great customer service skills. Previous knowledge or experience of health care or library services is not necessary as this role will help you build up that experience.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, you may initially need to work remotely and the Fund will provide you with the necessary equipment to do so. Once it is safe for our premises in London fully reopen, you will be expected to spend some of your time working in the library.
